Century's 110 Drive In Flea Market 1972 !

For all my cinema soul-mates on Cinema Treasures. Com: The closest we can come to seeing photos of the Route 110 Drive In Theater (that closed in 1977?) Although it's seen through the flea market..... (from the Newsday color magazine section, July 1972!). Here is what the Huntington Route 110 Drive In did on it's days off. Every Sunday was one of the biggest and most spectacular flea markets Long Island has ever seen--mostly OLD stuff (unlike the 1980's incarnation of flea markets with discount packages of blank VHS cassettes and tube sox and cheap electronics).
People would begin lining up while it was still dark out for the miles and miles of bargains! **If you look at the picture of the woman holding the hand made belt, you can see, I think, the snack bar way way behind her! **It was typical to see hippies selling hand made candles , belts and such. Most were regular folks cleaning out their attics and basements. **Also note: this was 1972, so most of the junk for sale had to be from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's! I used to get so much cool stuff there as a kid, mainly model kits and old Mad and Monster magazines. Does anyone know when the Route 110 Drive In stopped having the flea market? I do not think it lasted past 1974? The Sunrise and Copaigue Drive Ins lasted longer--into the late 1970's. Also, does anyone know if there were homes behind the Route 110
Drive-in ?

I think you're right. I don't think that flea market lasted past 1974 or so, because I would have been 7 or 8 then, and I have no or only possibly the vaguest memory of going to the flea market there. I should ask my parents if they remember that flea market.

The only homes within a half mile of that drive-in were some pretty nice homes (for their time) to the west, in a development known as "Tuxedo Park" which was built +/- 1970.

I asked my parents if they ever went to that flea market. They said "I think, once." They also remembered that when the drive-in was still open, and while the actual St. Elizabeth R.C. church building was being built on Wolf Hill Road in 1962, they had mass at that drive-in !

I worked at the 110 drive-in concession stand while in high school, around 1972- 1974. We used to make a lot of popcorn there in a huge popping machine, then fill it into garbage bags and they would sell it at the other Century theaters on long island. Knocking on (foggy) car windows late at night to collect for the Will Rogers fund was the worst assignment. Working next to a beautiful girl name Lori was the best assignment. There was a manager named Ron. There was a break in the fence where cars could come through for free. good memories.

My Father sold in the Flea Market from 1972 until it closed and many of the vendors moved to the Commack Flea. I enjoyed the pictures. We were in the front Row with Jonesey and Crazy Andy. I started selling there when I was 13. My father was like the Mayor

I worked there around '75/'76. I think I knew Lori--she went to Whitman with me. And I remember Ron and lots of other. Fun times!

Worked as a ramp man... outside team movies and flea market, working for Ed (73-74?). If you were one of the unlucky people that got caught jumping out of your trunk or over the fence to avoid paying, I was the guy in the blue (not orange) truck that asked you to cough up the money (a cold beer worked too). I miss all the girls that worked the concession stand, although three of those ladies much more than all the rest ;).
I remember running the carousel & chair rides, late night bank drops, knocking on windows when the driver put his foot on the brake pedal while ....
Good times for a high school kid at a buck eighty-five an hour.
